Moving Forward

Well I managed to find an internet cafe again today to bring you the exciting news that I'm moving on to FBT (field based training for those of you who don't live in the world of acronyms). It will be great to actually get some hands on experience and get away from spending the entire day in a classroom wishing I was outside; and hopefully with this fresh outlook my spanish skills will progress at an improved pace.

I just got back from visiting a water and sanitation volunteer which left me pretty stoked to start my service. I was slightly freaked out to be traveling 4+ hours away on several methods of transportation with limited spanish, but it turned out to be almost as easy as falling off a log. The key is to have a sweet host father who can arrange for a moto taxi (3 wheeled transportation with a motorcycle engine) to pick you up earlier to put some extra time into a tight schedule. I kind of got ripped off by the one taxi driver in Tegucigalpa, but now I know the real value of the trip from one bus station to the other. It was kind of my fault. When I asked how much, he asked "what do you think?" Not having any idea I said 100 lempiras and he said that was fine. On the return trip I found out from a more honorable driver that the actual cost is 80 lempiras. So I lost out on 20 lempiras, around a buck, but a dollar is worth a lot more down here.

Well I need to find a way to write these ahead of time so I can be more efficent and get down more of my experience in the limited time I have to write instead of wasting time trying to remember what I wanted to say.
